August 22nd was the day of the Kinko Bay fireworks festival in Kagoshima city! Most of the girls bought yukatas and there was a group of us in Ruth's apartment a few hours before the event, none of the newbies (including me) knew how to put them on!
We soon realized why Japanese women take such dainty steps and look so graceful in a yukata... because they have to be! You would think a "bath robe" would be more comfortable, but your movement is really quite restricted.
The streets near Dolphin Port were just filled with people! There were families and couples sitting on every possible 'ledge' and the streets were closed off for the festival. Vendors had big line ups and sold items such as "cheese balls" and "meat on a stick".

The area by Dolphin Port was packed! There were blue "tarps" on the ground and we were so lucky because Dan and the guys had saved us some spots! The fireworks lasted about an hour, with the coolest fireworks being the Hello Kitties and the hearts!! Most of them turned out kind of distorted and it took many fireworks for us to realize they were supposed to be hearts... just that they kept appearing upside down!
